Advocates Share Insights from Successful 2022 and 2023 Campaigns
At Assembly 2023, much of the programming featured tax justice advocates. In addition to advocates co-leading policy roundtable and skill-building sessions, local and state leaders were on the main stage to share insights from their victories in 2022 and 2023.
The We Make Minnesota coalition shared how the wins they won this year came out of research and organizing begun years in advance, and how a shared understanding of the patterns of economic oppression and racist or hateful rhetoric is more important than specific policies or phrases.
Faith in Indiana’s 2023 session wins served as a blueprint for leveraging data to build a supporter base that won revenue gains, even in the most challenging of political conditions.
Chicago advocates illustrated how local efforts like the Bring Chicago Home campaign are building support for revenue at every level of government, and using sophisticated campaign strategy to get their measure on the ballot at the most optimal time.
A highlight for many was the opposition research on the underground network of revenue opponents and the strategies they’re employing to avoid paying their fair share.
Fund Vermont’s Future Campaign Manager Anika Heilweil created a great video recap of the SRA Assembly and the lessons the coalition was excited to hear about and take back with them to Vermont.
